In 2007 Muhammad commenced articles of clerkship at a law firm on the east of Johannesburg during which term he gained invaluable experience in Municipal Law, acting for the local Municipality. He ceded the last 6 months of his articles of clerkship to Legal Aid South Africa where he gained extensive experience in trial advocacy, having undergone a week’s trial advocacy training and having conducted countless trials and opposed bail applications.

Muhammad Karolia was admitted as an Attorney in the year 2009. In the year 2010 he joined an established firm on the East Rand forging ahead to the position of director and head of the litigation department at such firm. In 2013 he adopted such litigation department when he became the incorporator, shareholder and director for his own account. He remained at his law firm over the period 2013 to January 2018, when he joined the Bar.

During his tenure as an Attorney, Muhammad was the instructing attorney in a reported decision Booysen vs Booysen 2012 (2) SA 38 (GSJ) in which the issue for determination was whether a surviving spouse in a joint estate had the legal capacity to enter into a sale of immovable property absent the appointed executor’s (1) consent to the sale and (2) signature to the sale agreement. The question that arose in Booysen was whether a surviving spouse in a joint estate became the sole owner of the joint estate upon the death of the other spouse. As an Attorney, Muhammad appeared in the South Gauteng High Court (Johannesburg), various Regional and District Courts throughout Gauteng and a number of Bargaining Councils.

Upon joining the Bar, Adv. Karolia has had the privilege of appearing in the Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Mahikeng, Durban and Pietermaritzburg respective divisions of the High Court. Adv. Karolia has further appeared in the National Consumer Tribunal and the Labour Court.
