Experience:
Abu Bakr was called to the Bar in 2019. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Johannesburg. Prior to the Bar, Abu Bakr practiced in the tax consultancy division of a multinational financial services firm, as well as an attorney at a boutique law firm in Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
During his time as an attorney, Abu Bakr advised clients on a range of issues, including employment disputes, mining and environmental law disputes, land right disputes, customary and Muslim marriage disputes, and criminal law.
Abu Bakr maintains a general commercial practice, with a preference for labour disputes, judicial reviews (both under PAJA and the Doctrine of Legality), tax-related disputes & insolvency matters.
Abu Bakr has appeared in various divisions of the High Courts including Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Free State, Northern Cape and the Western Cape, the Labour Court, and as junior counsel in the High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, and the Constitutional Court.
